Grand
Prix Equestrian
Location: Maple Park, IL
Work area: 33,000 square feet
Architect: Risinger + Associates
Riis Borg partnered with Grand Prix Equestrian, the architect,
the engineers and subcontractors to implement various value
engineering proposals aimed at providing the client with
the highest level of quality and functionality available,
but at an attractively affordable cost. The result is an
equestrian facility recognized as one of the top facilities
of its kind in the nation.
Project description:
• The Grand Prix Equestrian project consisted of the
completion of a 33,000 square foot stable and arena complex
for the training of horses in the discipline of dressage.
• Extensive site work was also undertaken to provide
necessary parking, water detention, sanitary service and
a 570,000 gallon pond that serves as the water source for
the facility’s fire protection system.
• Riis Borg’s millwork shop worked in tandem with
Grand Prix and proved to be a valuable resource in the design,
fabrication and installation of all of the facility’s
millwork.
Project highlights:
• Stables capable of housing 61 horses in individual
stalls.
• The stalls were imported from England and installed
by Riis Borg carpenters and contain a variety of wash, feed
and grooming stalls.
• The stables also house spacious tack rooms where
both the training staff and clients can store their saddles,
boots, etc., in custom lockers and cabinets fabricated and
installed by Riis Borg’s millwork shop.
• Separating the main stable from the 33,000 square
foot indoor riding arena is a two- story Clubhouse. Here,
clients can watch as their horses are trained in the arena
from either the ground level viewing deck or the upper level
mezzanine, all while enjoying food and beverages served from
a hospitality area consisting of custom wood cabinetry and
granite countertops fabricated and installed by Riis Borg’s
millwork shop.
