The Enterprise Companies
Location: Chicago, IL
Work area: 10,000 square feet
Architect: Pappageorge/Haymes, Ltd.
The Enterprise Companies’ project was an office relocation within the Montgomery Wards Catalogue Warehouse, which is a nearly 100-year-old building intended for warehousing merchandise that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This created a unique set of construction issues due to the layout of the existing structure.
Project description:
• Replication of an existing office space for the displaced client who was staying in the same building but needed to move to a different floor
• Frequent changes—totaling 23 percent of the project costs—were made after construction was in progress without consideration of budget or schedule, but the project was still finished on time
Project highlights:
• High-end finishes such as custom kitchen cabinets, full-height glass walls, accent lighting, multi-colored paint schemes, and granite countertops
• New build-out was nearly an exact replica of the old existing space only 25 percent larger
• No down time due to construction or moving: Client completed the entire move during a weekend and had the new office up and running by Monday morning
• Achieved tax-exempt status
Services provided:
• General contracting
• Self-performed Carpentry; General labor and demolition; Millwork
